Practical notes for international second opinions¶
- Match the problem to the unit. Adult residual clubfoot after posteromedial release often presents as multiplanar deformity + arthritis + soft-tissue compromise. Look for adult foot & ankle reconstruction / tertiary deformity units (examples above), not pediatric Ponseti casting clinics alone.
- Ask explicitly whether the practice treats adults with childhood clubfoot surgery sequelae, revision midfoot/hindfoot fusion, and wound/orthotic co-management.
- Access & cost. NHS tertiary care generally requires UK referral pathways; Swiss/German/Canadian centers often need international-office clearance and Travel with active plantar wounds raises infection and DVT risk — plan local wound stability first (see [[domain-3-wound-care]]).
